Age a Photo

Step 1 - Open the image that you want to age. Make sure that the color depth is 16 million colors. To check for this click the Image menu> Increase Color Depth, if they are all greyed out then your image is ready, if they are not choose 16 million colors (24 bit).

Step 2 - Click the Effects menu and choose Artistic Effects>Sepia Toning. In this case I set the aging to 38.
Step 3 - Add a new layer to the image and fill with the tp_UrbanSchool Pattern. Change the Blend Mode to Soft Light.
Step 4- Add a new layer to the image and fill the layer with the Pattern Lines scaled down to 60. Change the Blend Mode to Overlay and decrease the Opacity to 30.
   
Step 5 - Add a new layer and fill it with the Pattern whitecrackle. Change the layer Blend Mode to Screen and decrease the Opacity to 50.
Step 6 - Make any opacity adjustments to suit your taste then click the Image menu and choose Add Borders. Make the borders White, Symmetric and size 20.

Step 7 - Promote the Background to a layer by double clicking the word Background in the layer Palette. Click the Warp brush to make it active. Set the warp to Noise. Brush size 25, Hardness 40, Strength 100, Step 1, Noise 100, Edge Mode Background. Click the top, left corner. Hold down the Shift key and click the bottom left corner, keep holding the shit key and click the bottom right corner, then the top right corner then back to the top left corner. The object is to warp the edges of the photo. Do this twice.

The frame included in the aging kit does this step for you. You can finish here or add some old photo album corners using the shapes tool.

 

Step 8 - Click the Shapes tool. Choose the Rectangle. Hold down the Shift key and draw a square. The stroke should be null and the fill should be black.

Click the Pen tool and select the bottom right node. Click the delete key. This should leave a triangle at the top corner of your image.

Right click the layer in the Layer palette and choose Convert To raster layer.

Add Gaussian noise at 50. Adjust>Add Noise.

Step 9 - Click the Shape selection tool and choose Square. Click and drag to place a marquee in the corner area that you want to remove, press the delete key on your keyboard to remove. Duplicate that layer and choose Mirror from the Image menu. Duplicate that layer and choose Flip from the image menu. Duplicate that layer and choose Mirror from the image menu. Hide the background layer and Merge Visible. Add a small drop shadow and you are done.
